Chinese experts have created a cancer vaccine that can treat many kinds of tumors at one shot

Will the next decade end cancer?
Many kinds of cancer vaccines have been developed, and the era of cancer-free is coming

Can cancer end with a vaccine, like smallpox or polio?

Indeed, cancer vaccines carry the hopes of countless people and are the common aspirations of all mankind.

A Chinese study on a “cancer vaccine” was published in the international journal Science Advances on May 22.

A team led by Professor Ma Guanghui and Professor Wei Wei at the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed a novel cancer vaccine that, with a single shot, activates the body’s immune system and inhibits tumours, and has been shown to be effective in a variety of cancers, including breast cancer, melanoma and lymphoma.
Because the post-packaging process of the vaccine is simple, clinicians can make neopantigens at any time, should the need arise.

The Chinese team’s study was “well-designed and rational”, according to the journal Science Advances, stressing that the results were “impressive” and “of high value for therapeutic vaccines and cancer immunotherapy”.

What is a “cancer vaccine”?

Cancer vaccine refers to the relevant antigen of tumor cells, to stimulate the body against cancer related immune system, so as to achieve the purpose of cancer prevention, anticancer drugs.
Currently, there are two main types of cancer vaccines: therapeutic and preventive.

Therapeutic cancer vaccine: Through cancer cell antigen to activate the body’s specific immune function, to achieve the purpose of killing or controlling tumor cells.
Different from traditional targeted therapy and chemoradiotherapy, this kind of cancer vaccine therapy has fewer side effects, good safety and individual characteristics. It can be used to prevent the recurrence of cancer after surgery or radical treatment, which can benefit cancer patients faster and earlier.
Prophylactic cancer vaccines: Prevent the occurrence of cancer by preventing and killing some bacterial or viral infections, such as cervical cancer vaccine, which can prevent HPV infection and thus prevent cervical cancer.
Second, the world’s latest cancer vaccines inventory!

№ 1. Brain tumors

Because brain tumors contain very few immune cells, it is difficult to get those immune cells to generate an immune response, but several vaccines have shown promising results for brain tumor patients.

NeoVax vaccine: Stimulates a response to glioblastoma, producing immune T cells that can reach brain tumors and significantly improve survival in glioblastoma patients, although the vaccine is currently in clinical trials.

SurVaxM vaccine: Designed to control tumor growth and delay or prevent cancer recurrence in patients with early-stage glioblastoma, the SurVaxM vaccine has won FDA orphan designation and is currently undergoing phase II clinical trials at Dana-Farber.

Dcvax-l vaccine: This vaccine is non-toxic, and in clinical studies to date, there have been no toxicities or serious treaty-related adverse events during more than 1,000 treatment courses over a 10-year period.

№ 2. Kidney cancer

NeoVax vaccine: is a new kind of personalized cancer vaccines, it combined with mature immune checkpoint inhibitor, can mobilize kidney cancer patients with post-operative stay in cancer cells in the body’s immune response, so as to improve the prognosis of patients with high risk of recurrence after the surgery, this is the first assessment of kidney patients personalized cancer vaccine trials.

№ 3. Ovarian cancer

DCVAC/OvCa: sensitive to recurrence and cisplatin in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer using based on dendritic cells immunotherapy DCVAC/OvCa added to the standard of gemcitabine and carboplatin scenario, can make the late recurrence of ovarian cancer patients’ overall survival to extend more than a year, the second-line treatment of ovarian cancer risk of death was 62% lower, at present the research on the three phase.

№ 4. Lung cancer

Cimavax: The world’s first registered lung cancer vaccine for advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
The CIMAvax vaccine has undergone numerous clinical trials in several countries, including Cuba and the United States, and is now ready for phase II clinical trials.
However, the CimaVax vaccine does not stop the development of cancer, let alone cure it. Instead, it activates a mechanism that limits the division and uncontrolled growth of cancer cells, turning advanced lung cancer into a chronic disease.

Vaxira: The ability to stimulate the immune system, help and protect the body against foreign agents that cause disease and infection is the second non-small cell lung cancer vaccine developed in Cuba.
Unlike traditional treatments for cancer, 02Vaxira is a well-tolerated treatment.

03CCL21-dendrite vaccine: Expands the immune system’s response to non-small cell lung cancer, improving the lethal effect of anti-PD-1 immunotherapy on cancer with fewer side effects.

№ 5. Lymphoma

01SD-101: The vaccine, which has shown amazing results in animal studies, was officially announced for human clinical trials in April 2018. If it works, it could be used to prevent metastasis and recurrence before the tumor is surgically removed.

Dendritic vaccine: When the vaccine is injected into a tumor (in situ vaccination), we see the disappearance of tumors throughout the body, shaking the tumor world.
The blockbuster study was published in the international journal Nature Medicine.

  1. Melanoma

01Neovax vaccine: A neoantigen vaccine pioneered by Catherine Wu, MD, of Dana-Farber.
Her study, published in Nature, showed that four of the six patients with melanoma who had been surgically treated with the vaccine were at high risk of recurrence, and no signs of cancer recurrence were found 25 months after vaccination.

Seeing the results of cancer vaccine development, many people think that they can solve cancer in ten years. Does that mean that we don’t have to be afraid of cancer any more?

In fact, most of the current vaccines are therapeutic vaccines, in daily life or we should pay attention to develop good habits and dietary habits, cancer prevention work.

However, cancer vaccines have received much attention from many countries, and they are sparing no effort in research and development. I believe that one day human beings can fight against cancer through vaccination, and welcome the cancer-free era!
