Novel Coronavirus infection was confirmed by a senior official of the CoVID-19 Outbreak Steering group in Suriname

Colonel Jerry Slijngard, head of suriname’s National Disaster Management Coordination Centre and a member of the COVID-19 guidance team, has been diagnosed, local media reported Wednesday.
As of press time, there have been 168 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Suriname, including 157 existing cases and 2 deaths.
There were 24 new confirmed cases in the country Thursday.
Colonel Jerry Sriad is the highest-ranking official suriname has identified as infected with a Coronavirus.
